One of the hit songs of 80’s Rock Band - Queen, titled "Another One Bites the Dust", comes to mind.
Although they speak of mortal beings, I dare to attempt an analogy with abstracts, to be more precise - time. That limited infinite resource that we neither feel nor see but which ravages us nonetheless as we wake up each day to acknowledge its passage.
Can you imagine? It was just like yesterday we ushered in the 2017 (English language is funny. On the night of every December 31st, we just wait for the clock to chime 12.01am, yet we claim to ‘usher in the new year’) anyway I digress … as I was saying, isn’t it remarkable how time seems to pass so very quickly we wonder what we did with it?
Yes, another Gregorian year "… bites the dust" or soon shall, in some 29 days or so.
If you are not fond of reliving the past, perhaps you care to ponder the future? Though in all honesty, to appreciate your life journey, there is the need to reflect on your past and present before contemplating how you want your future to be.
What worked for you? What didn’t? Who added value to your life? Who didn’t? Did you get that job, promotion or business deal? Did you sweep that lady off her feet? Did you ascertain her blood group, genotype and psych evaluation? Does she like knives? What? It is just a question… ;)
On the other hand, did you confirm the chap you have been doting on actually has a job and really owns the various cars he has been visiting you with? Does his father really own the airport in Kaduna?
Every reasonable being on this earth has aspirations, dreams or goals. What are yours? How do you intend to go about achieving them?
Will you go the well-worn route of "new year resolutions" that seldom survive 45 days of every New Year? Or will you opt for "real solutions" that have been tried and tested?
