Hold on to Your Reason

Politics season has finally arrived.

The campaigns will start and we shall begin to hear all sorts of analysis, promises and declarations. We shall see a lot of shenanigans too.

From the mild and sensible to the aggressive and senseless. From the unifying to the divisive. From the factual to the fabricated.

Politics season is here and we shall have no rest until it is over.

When will we realise that it does not matter whether an umbrella is more important than a broom? What matters the most is the competence and ability of the elected few to govern properly by providing security of lives and property as well as opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship - in short, an environment where the average law-abiding Nigerian can strive to earn a decent living so he/she can take care of their family.

Where eating decent meals, paying school fees and healthcare costs will not cause sleepless nights or nightmares if you manage to sleep; where hypertension caused by high blood pressure will not be the most common ailment that will compound problems - Double Wahala according to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Politics season has arrived, let us make sure we do not allow our sense of reason to depart. They seldom stay in the same space.

If politics is a game, then let us play it. We should never allow it to play us.

Hold on to your reason!
